It's Time to Try Chemical Peels!

It's Time to Try Chemical Peels!

Winter may be officially behind us, but your skin is probably still showing signs of the colder, drier winter air. During the winter months, many people notice the visible signs of aging, like dry skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and sunspots becoming more apparent.

At SculptMD Aesthetic Medical Spa in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, our team of practitioners has the solution you need: non-invasive chemical peels. Read on to learn more about this amazing aesthetic treatment and the signs it’s time to try a chemical peel!

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels work by using chemical solutions to create superficial wounds and resurface your skin. These controlled wounds stimulate your body’s natural healing process and increase collagen production where the chemical solution was applied.

Your body produces the protein collagen to aid in skin and tissue repair and helps keep your skin fresh, firm, and smooth. During a chemical peel, the chemicals react on your skin so that the top layer of skin peels away and leaves room for new, younger-looking skin to grow.

Does it matter which chemical peel I choose?

Yes. Because different chemical peels address different skin types and concerns, your experienced aesthetic provider must help you choose the right type of peel for your skin’s condition and the results you desire.

Chemical peels generally fall into three types: superficial, medium, or deep. Each type of peel affects different results and requires different recovery times. Here’s a closer look at these peels:

Superficial peels

Superficial peels use milder acids. They’re best used to correct mild discoloration and other mild skin conditions since they only penetrate the top layer of your skin. With a superficial peel, you can expect some light skin redness that typically resolves within a day.

Medium peels

Medium peels use stronger chemicals that penetrate both the outer and middle layers of your skin. They’re a good option for minimizing the appearance of more noticeable imperfections, like age spots, wrinkles, and dry skin. Medium peels can cause redder skin than superficial peels, and they require up to five days of downtime.

Deep peels

Deep chemical peels penetrate deeper into your skin than medium peels using stronger acids. They remove damaged skin cells and leave you with the most dramatic results, but they aren’t right for everyone. Keep in mind with a deep peel you’ll need to have your skin bandaged and recover for 10-14 days.

Depending on the aesthetic goals you share, your SculptMD provider may recommend additional aesthetic services to rejuvenate your appearance, such as Botox and facial fillers, skin tightening, microneedling, or other customized services.

How do I know it’s time to try a chemical peel?

If you’re ready to say goodbye to old skin cells and let healthy, new skin take center stage, it could be time to try a chemical peel. While it’s always best to consult with a trained aesthetic specialists, a chemical peel could be for you if you want:

Chemical peels generally take 30-60 minutes, and you’ll be able to leave immediately after your appointment. To learn more about chemical peels or set up a consultation, schedule an appointment online or over the phone with a SculptMD Aesthetic Medical Spa provider in Shrewsbury, New Jersey.
