Microneedling vs. Fillers: Which is Right for Me?

Microneedling vs. Fillers: Which is Right for Me?

Ready to rejuvenate your appearance but aren’t sure if dermal fillers or microneedling are suitable for you? We understand. Many of our clients here at SculptMD come in wanting younger-looking skin but aren’t sure where to start.

Dr. Manolis Manolakakis and our aesthetic team offer several treatments that reduce the visible signs of aging and give your skin a youthful glow. Two of our favorites, microneedling and fillers, meet our tough standards, and the right one depends on your skin and aesthetic goals.

Keep reading to learn more about microneedling, fillers, and which one is best for you.

About microneedling

Nonsurgical microneedling refreshes your skin and delivers a younger-looking appearance by increasing your skin’s natural collagen production. This hard-working protein is one of the key ingredients for younger, firmer, smoother skin.

As you age, your body naturally makes less collagen. Plus, collagen production can slow prematurely if your skin is injured, then scars (as with acne).

Microneedling raises your collagen production by using tiny needles to micro-puncture your skin. The needles are so small that these microscopic wounds don’t hurt or bleed. But the wounds signal your skin to create more collagen, improving your skin’s appearance.

One of the best things about microneedling is that people with all skin types can benefit from this treatment to treat:

Remember that most clients who attain optimal results undergo about 4-6 treatments. Your SculptMD provider evaluates your skin to recommend the correct number of treatments for you.

About fillers

Dermal fillers are made from gel-like substances your SculptMD provider injects below your skin’s surface to smooth wrinkles and restore the facial volume you lose as you age. We can use different dermal fillers to address different skin challenges, including:

These injectables are made from substances your body naturally produces, collagen and hyaluronic acid. This means that when administered by trained experts, like the team at SculptMD, they’re safe to use and have minimal side effects.

Deciding which is right for you

The best way to learn whether microneedling or fillers is right is by scheduling a consultation with an aesthetic expert. At SculptMD, your provider creates a personalized treatment plan after evaluating your skin and talking to you about your aesthetic goals.

Generally, dermal fillers are an excellent option if you want to fill in lines and wrinkles or want to address a lack of volume or fullness. Remember, however, that when the filler wears off, your skin reverts to its pretreatment appearance.

Microneedling is an excellent option to give your skin an overall younger look and address surface issues like scars or sunspots. Because the treatment relies on your body’s natural collagen production and skin turnover, results appear gradually over time.

For many clients, a combination of microneedling and fillers delivers the best results. You can safely combine these treatments and enjoy the benefits of both. Keep in mind, however, you’ll have to wait several weeks after getting fillers before undergoing microneedling.
