Start Readying Yourself for Summer Now With Laser Hair Removal

If you’re tired of basically doing yoga in the shower to shave or having your body hair ripped out of your body with hot wax, you’re not alone. Thousands of people take the plunge every year and invest in laser hair removal

You can stop wasting time and money on short-term hair removal and instead have long-lasting smooth, hairless skin with state-of-the-art laser hair removal. Our team here at SculptMD, in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, uses cutting-edge laser technology to target and damage your hair follicles, preventing future growth.

The autumn and winter months are often the best time of year to have laser hair removal — this is why:

Sun exposure interferes with laser hair removal

You shouldn’t have a tan while you have laser hair removal — not from the sun, a tanning bed, or even a bottle. The extra melanin in your skin from tanning not only makes your treatment less effective, but it can lead to melasma and hyperpigmentation.

It’s best to avoid the sun, which is easy to do over these chilly fall and winter months, and wear sunscreen on any exposed skin any time you go outside — even if it’s overcast.

Most patients have at least six treatments

We provide thorough consultations and personalized recommendations for your laser hair removal treatments, including the estimated number of sessions we think you’ll need to become hair-free.

In general, patients have a series of six treatments, and you need to wait approximately four to six weeks between your treatments. This means that you need at least 24-36 weeks to complete your series of laser hair removal treatments. If you start now, you’ll be hair free by next summer.

You need to prepare for your treatments

You need to have some hair in your follicles for laser hair removal to work. This means that you have to give up plucking, waxing, and other hair-removal techniques that remove your hair at the root.

We recommend shaving the day before your laser hair removal session. This way, there’s hair in the follicle but very little on the surface of your skin, which reduces your risk of burns or singed hair.

And you need to recover

While the laser technology used for hair removal has advanced significantly since the treatment initially emerged, it can still cause some temporary side effects. First, many patients say the treatment feels like getting snapped with a rubber band. It’s also possible for your skin to become pink and slightly swollen. Some patients have some tenderness.

These typically mild side effects usually subside in a day or so, but you don’t want to have to cope with them during the hot and humid summer months.

Give us a call or schedule a consultation online if you’re interested in laser hair removal. We can treat almost any skin on your body, including your legs, bikini area, stomach, back, arms, chest, and shoulders.
