What to Expect After Your CoolSculpting® Treatment

What to Expect After Your CoolSculpting® Treatment

Have you dieted and exercised to shed unwanted pounds but still have areas of fat that won’t budge? The aesthetic team at SculptMD in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, uses revolutionary CoolSculpting® to freeze stubborn fat cells safely.

FDA-cleared CoolSculpting blasts unwanted pockets of fat and helps you shed those last few pounds from many areas of the body, including your abdomen, thighs, arms, and back—no scalpels or suctioning required.

This non-surgical body sculpting procedure provides amazing results with little-to-no downtime and minimal risks. But there are things to keep in mind after your treatment. Here’s a closer look at how this non-invasive treatment works and what you can expect following your CoolSculpting treatment.

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting works using cryolipolysis, a procedure that uses cold temperatures to quickly and painlessly freeze fat deposits. The targeted fat cells die, and your lymphatic system naturally removes them with other cellular waste.

This non-invasive body contouring only takes an hour or less and doesn’t cause any pain during your treatment. Your SculptMD provider meets with you to discuss your aesthetic goals and helps you determine which areas with difficult-to-lose fat you want to treat, including your:

According to clinical studies, patients enjoy an average 20% reduction in fat in each treatment area after each CoolSculpting session.

What can I expect after CoolSculpting?

After any medical procedure, your experience varies depending on your personal medical history and current health. At SculptMD, we’re happy to discuss what you can personally expect after your CoolSculpting treatment during your one-on-one consultation.

Generally, most SculptMD patients experience minimal discomfort following their CoolSculpting session. No downtime is required, and most people can expect a quick recovery, meaning you can return to your normal activities immediately.

Immediately after your session, you can expect your red skin that’s firm to the touch. These symptoms generally go away within a few minutes or hours. You can also expect your skin to feel sore or tender, similar to a mild sunburn, in the first 24 hours after your session.

The most noticeable side effect people have is temporary numbness, which can last for a week or so. While you’ll feel slightly numb, you won’t lose any muscle control.

Most people don’t have any other noticeable side effects. Some patients do experience short-term side effects, generally based on the location you had treated.

For example, jaw or under chin treatments may trigger a feeling of fullness in the back of your throat. Other side effects some people experience vary by treatment area and include:

It’s helpful to remember these side effects are only temporary and generally resolve quickly on their own, with no special action needed on your part. Compression garments can help speed recovery, as can exercise.

If you’re experiencing any post-treatment side effects that don’t resolve after 10 days, call your SculptMD provider.

When will I see results after CoolSculpting?

Keep in mind that CoolSculpting results aren’t immediate. This is because it takes time for your body’s lymphatic system to remove the treated fat cells. The exact time needed depends on many factors, including your metabolism and the treatment area(s) size.

Your SculptMD provider may suggest fitting in some physical exercise in the first 24 hours after your CoolSculpting treatment to boost your metabolism and stimulate your lymphatic system to help promote healing.

You can expect noticeable results about three weeks after your CoolSculpting session, but maximum results take between 4-6 months to appear. Your provider can give you a better idea of the exact time you can expect before your final results.

It may take a few months for your final results to develop, but once the blasted fat pockets are gone, they’re gone for good since CoolSculpting results are permanent.

Know that if you gain weight, fat cells in other areas of your body will grow larger. That’s why it’s important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise for optimal, long-lasting results.
