CoolSculpting Q & A

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a noninvasive body-contouring treatment that uses a process called cryolipolysis to rid your body of fat cells. Even if your lifestyle is as healthy as they come, you likely still have a few pockets of stubborn fat that don’t burn away naturally.

With CoolSculpting, you can freeze away some of this fat for a sleeker body shape or more muscle definition.

During a CoolSculpting treatment, your provider at SculptMD uses the cooling panel on the device to apply freezing temperatures to your targeted areas of fat. They place a gel pad between your skin and the device to protect your skin from the harsh temperature.

During the treatment, you might feel a tugging sensation combined with intense cold. Soon, the area starts to feel numb.

The treatment freezes your fat cells, causing them to die. Your body naturally absorbs 20-25% of the fat cells from your treatment area over the course of several months. This happens gradually, so others won’t notice you lost fat via a noninvasive treatment.

Which parts of my body can I reshape with CoolSculpting?

With CoolSculpting, you can target fat bulges in nearly every area of your body. You have a unique fat distribution, so you should talk to your provider during your consultation about which areas you should target. Common areas that accumulate extra fat are:

  • Waist
  • Back
  • Under the bra
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Chin and jaw

A good rule of thumb is if you can pinch it, you can treat it with CoolSculpting. You can target one or several areas, depending on the change you want to see. If you continue with a healthy lifestyle and watch your weight, the results are permanent.

Am I a good candidate for CoolSculpting?

Although CoolSculpting is designed to eliminate fat, it isn’t intended for weight loss. You should get the treatment if you’ve already reached your goal weight or are within a few pounds of it. Instead of affecting the size of your body, CoolSculpting merely changes the shape.

CoolSculpting is noninvasive and safer than liposuction, its surgical alternative. In order to know for sure whether you’re a candidate for the treatment, you should sit down for a consultation with a provider at SculptMD. You’ll discuss your health history, lifestyle, and the results you want to see.
